Survey on concussion knowledge
1.6 to 3.8 million concussions are diagnosed each year in the United States. According to a recent British, nearly 50% of high-level rugby players show changes in brain volume following impacts received at head level. Proper management of these concussions is essential for the health and the future of the athlete.
“The concussion survey” consisted in assessing the level of knowledge of health professionals, athletes and coaches regarding the occurrence and management of concussions, in order to implement training courses adapted to the needs of stakeholders and athletes.
For that purpose, a questionnaire of around thirty questions was widely distributed (by email, via newsletters, social networks and website) within the ReFORM network. In total, more than 2000 questionnaires were collected. The results of this survey were presented at different conferences and are available here.
